Preventing Falls, Especially for People with Parkinson's

I’ve written often about falling, since it’s a danger for all seniors, and especially for people with Parkinson’s, like me.

Here are a few of those earlier posts:
Recently, I saw a four-minute video about fall prevention by Dr. Bastiaan Bloem, who directs the Nijmegen Parkinson Center at Radboud University in The Netherlands.I met Dr. Bloem at the World Parkinson's Congress in Montreal.  He was one of the five speakers selected for  the media briefing that I attended,

Bloem advocates a multi-disciplinary approach to fall prevention, which should include these professionals:
  • Neurologist to assess meds
  • Physiotherapist to improve gait
  • Occupational therapist to review home environment for risks
  • Rehabilitation specialist to strengthen muscles
I've covered all of Bloem's bases except the occupational therapist's review of risks in my home.

The brief video is worth a look: Preventing falls for PD patients.
